About the artist

I graduated from Wolverhampton University in 1993 with a B.A.(Hons) in Fine Art (2.1). Since then I have continue to develop and evolve as an artist.

I began working as a letter cutter and artist at a monumental masons’ in West Sussex in 2002. Stone carving demands accuracy, precision and fine-tuned technical skills which, with patience and determination, I finally mastered. I quickly developed a passion for this ancient craft and realised the importance of designing, drawing and cutting relief sculpture in consultation with families in order to understand their wishes and develop and create the best commemoration possible. Within a year I had won 3 awards at the Craftex 2003 Stone Show: Best lettering by an apprentice ; Best Item by an apprentice ; 2nd place gridblast lettering – qualified letter cutter class.

Stone offers an endless variety of textures and colours. Using only reclaimed stone, I enjoy the satisfaction of using the Earth’s most natural and durable material to express ideas and to create objects – whether they’re purely decorative or have a functional purpose.
