Exhibitions

In a world of increasing automation and mechanisation we are surrounded by mass-produced, impersonal objects of little value that are quickly obtained and quickly disposed of.  As a consequence traditional crafts such as letter cutting in stone are rarely seen today. Lettering takes time. It is a slow process that cannot be rushed and requires skill, focus and patience but the results are unique. There is a humanity to hand lettering that is impossible to generate with a machine. It offers permanence and heritage. Things created in stone often outlast us and will pass on a message to generations to come.

My exhibitions aim to highlight the beauty of traditional letterforms and the legacy of this centuries-old artistic form of expression. I use traditional hand tools and techniques that are a mark of artistry and authenticity. Each piece of work is hand carved using just a hammer and chisel and they are all bespoke and unique.

In my exhibitions you will see examples of reclaimed Welsh slate, Hopton Wood limestone, York stone, Portland stone, Hornton stone and Nabresina limestone.
